Crafted by Orbelia Winery, located in the heart of the Struma River Valley beneath the Belasitsa Mountain, this naturally sparkling Pet Nat is a true expression of Bulgaria’s winemaking revival. Orbelia is a family-owned winery that honors tradition while embracing innovation – working with both native and international varietals to reflect the region’s distinct terroir. The winery takes its name from the ancient Thracian word Orbelia, meaning “white mountain,†a tribute to the pristine nature surrounding its vineyards.
This Petillant Naturel is made from Sandanski Misket, a rare and aromatic local variety. It is a Brut Nature sparkling wine, meaning no sugar is added, and everything comes from the grapes themselves. The grapes are harvested early, at lower sugar levels to preserve their natural acidity and freshness, resulting in a light-bodied wine with 11.5% alcohol.
Fermentation begins in stainless steel, and while still active, the wine is bottled under crown cap, allowing natural carbonation to form. The wine then ages on its lees for six months, where it gains complexity and ultra-fine bubbles. It’s then disgorged (the sediment is removed), topped with the same wine, and sealed again – no additives, no dosage, no filtration.
In the glass, it glows with a golden green hue, offering delicate aromas of green apple, autumn pear, and a citrus lift. The palate is fresh, juicy, and lightly textured, with a long and appetizing finish that makes it both playful and elegant.
Perfect for aperitifs, light starters, seafood, or to toast the moment, this Pet Nat is a celebration of natural winemaking and Balkan character.
