Region and Terroir: Danube Plain (PGI), Oryahovo, Bulgaria; loess soil, river-influenced microclimate

Pinot Noir, one of the world’s most noble grape varieties, finds a refined expression at Château Burgozone, a boutique Bulgarian winery nestled along the banks of the Danube River. Known for its cool-climate terroir and loess-rich soils, the Danube Plain provides the ideal environment for this delicate and expressive grape.

Grown in the estate’s own vineyards in Oryahovo, the grapes are hand-harvested and hand-sorted before undergoing a unique vinification process. This includes a combination of three fermentation methods: cold pre-fermentation maceration, low-temperature fermentation, and traditional fermentation, ensuring a layered and aromatic profile.

The wine is then aged for 9-12 months in French oak barrels, adding elegance and complexity without overpowering the variety’s natural finesse. It presents a lively ruby color, with aromas of red fruits like cherry, raspberry, and plum, alongside bramble, tomato leaf, chocolate, and spice. On the palate, it’s silky and balanced, with flavors that echo the nose and a long, harmonious finish.

Made by Château Burgozone, a benchmark in modern Bulgarian winemaking, this vegan, low-intervention wine captures the essence of the Danubian terroir. Whether paired with salmon, duck, turkey, roasted meats, or soft cheeses, this Pinot Noir is a refined and versatile companion for fine dining or casual enjoyment.
